Overview
Hakuba Village has a history of over 100 years as one of Japan’s leading international mountain resorts. In 1891, British mountaineer Walter Weston, who is said to be the father of modern mountaineering in Japan, summited Mt. Hakumadake.
It is said that since then, it has become a dream destination for many mountaineers. Many ski resorts have opened in the Hakuba mountain range due to the strong influence of the mountain climbing and skiing booms. In addition to these ski resorts, Hakuba Village is dotted with other spots that you’ll want to visit at least once, such as the Hakuba Ski Jump Stadium, which was built during the Nagano Olympics, and hot springs such as Hakuba Happo Onsen.
Oide Suspension Bridge is a scenic spot where you can see the majestic Hakuba Sanzan. When you look from the top of the bridge, the mountains of the Northern Alps rise up in front of you, and you can feel the quaint atmosphere along with the thatched roofs nearby. Therefore, it is famous as a place that is loved by many creators such as photographers and painters.
